Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) 2024-25


The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, invites applications for the Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) for the academic year 2024–2025. This scheme is aimed at providing financial assistance to children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

Key Features of the SPDC Scheme 2024–2025:

  1. Eligibility:

    a) Applicants must belong to the NRI/PIO/OCI community from any foreign country.

    b) Children of Indian Workers in ECR countries who have studied either abroad or in India are also eligible.

     

  2. Admission Criteria:

    a) The scholarship is available only to 1st-year undergraduate students (except medical courses).

    b) For diaspora students enrolled in undergraduate medical courses in Indian institutions, the scholarship will be awarded from 2nd to 5th year.

     

  3. Age Limit:

    a) Applicants must be between 17 to 21 years as of July 31, 2024.

     

  4. Reservation of Slots:

    a) A total of 150 scholarships will be awarded.

    b) 50 scholarships are reserved for children of Indian workers in ECR countries, of which 17 slots are allocated to those who have studied in India.

     

  5. Merit-Cum-Means Basis:

    a) Selection will be based on academic performance and financial need.

     

  6. Educational Qualification:

    a) Applicants must have completed grades 11 and 12 (or equivalent) abroad.

    b) For children of Indian workers in ECR countries who have studied in India, grades 11 and 12 (or equivalent) must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

  7. Institutions Covered

a) Central Universities in India offering undergraduate courses.A’ Grade institutions accredited by NAAC and recognized by UGC.

b)A’ Grade institutions accredited by NAAC and recognized by UGC.

c) NITs, Schools of Planning and Architecture, and IIITs through the DASA Scheme.

 

8. Scholarship Amount:

a) Covers 75% of the Institutional Economic Cost (IEC), subject to a maximum of US$ 4,000 per annum.

b) IEC includes tuition, hostel fees, and other institutional charges (excluding food charges)

 

9. Income Limit:

a) For NRIs/PIOs/OCIs: Parental monthly income must not exceed US$ 5,000.

b) For Indian workers in ECR countries: Parental monthly income must not exceed US$ 3,000.

 

10. Application Deadline:

a) The last date to submit the completed application form is 27 December 2024.
