About Us OCI scheme

With effect from 1st February 2024, applicant’s residents in Slovenia seeking Passport/Visa/Consular services in Embassy of India, Ljubljana are required to deposit/transfer the exact amount of prescribed fees [Fee + ICWF Charge] into the bank account of Embassy of India - Ljubljana and submit the payment proof along with duly filled in application form and required documents on every Wednesday or Friday between 10:00 to 12:00 Hrs. The applicant needs to make separate fee deposit/bank transfer for each type of service. The Embassy does NOT accept fee(s) by Credit/Debit Cards Personal cheques or in Cash.
Eligibility
A foreign national, - (i) who was a citizen of India at the time of, or at any time after 26th January, 1950; or (ii) who was eligible to become a citizen of India on 26th January, 1950; or (iii) who belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15th August, 1947; or (iv) who is a child or a grandchild or a great grandchild of such a citizen; or (v) who is a minor child of such persons mentioned above; or (vi) who is a minor child and whose both parents are citizens of India or one of the parents is a citizen of India - is eligible for registration as OCI cardholder. Besides, spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years immediately preceding the presentation of the application is also eligible for registration as OCI cardholder. However, no person, who or either of whose parents or grandparents or great grandparents is or had been a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or such other country as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify, shall be eligible for registration as an Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder.

Every registered OCI will be issued a registration certificate which is printed like an Indian passport in different colour and an OCI visa sticker will be pasted in the person’s foreign passport. These two documents will have the photograph of the individual and all necessary security features.
 OCI Registration Process
Application form for OCI registration needs to be filled online on the website https://passport.gov.in/oci . After filling the form, the applicant needs to save and print the form. A reference number is generated on the printed form. This printed form along with the relevant documents and prescribed fee should be submitted at the Consular Section, Embassy of India, Ljubljana on working Wednesdays and Fridays between 1000 hrs to 1200 hrs. Issuance of OCI cards normally takes 5-6 weeks from the date of submission of the application.
Conversion of PIO card to OCI card
Following the merger of PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) Card Scheme with the OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) Card Scheme, all PIO card holders are advised to obtain OCI cards. The last date for submission of application for registration as OCI cardholder in lieu of PIO card has been extended till 31 December, 2024. This cutoff date will be only for submission of the applications online by the applicants. The erstwhile PIO cardholder with a valid PIO card as on 9.1.2015 will have to upload only the following documents with his/ her application:-

(a) Copy of the valid Passport
(b) Copy of the both first and last pages of PIO card
The grant of OCI card in lieu of the PIO card will be on a gratis basis.The OCI card shall be issued by the Indian Mission/ Post/ FRRO concerned within the jurisdiction of the applicant’s place of residence. The applicant will have to approach the Indian Mission/ Post/ FRRO concerned only for collecting the OCI Card by surrendering the PIO card.
Advisory for PIO cardholders
 

International Civil aviation Organization accepts only machine readable travel documents as of October 2018. The existing hand written PIO cards thus became invalid travel documents. Hence, the PIO cardholders had to obtain machine readable OCI cards in lieu of existing hand written PIO cards before 31 December 2022 to avoid any inconvenience.

The applicant needs to avail service within 15 days of deposit/transfer of the amount into the bank account of the Embassy of India- Ljubljana. In case, one failed to avail service within 15 days of deposit/transfer the amount, the deposited amount will be stand forfeited. No further requests will be entertained on extension of time limit.

The fee is also not refundable in case the service is not rendered due to some or other reasons.
