To mark the 10th anniversary of the Embassy of India in Ljubljana, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of the Republic of India, is sending to Slovenia Mr. Jawhar Sircar, a distinguished academic and former State Secretary for Culture as well as CEO of the Indian national public broadcasting service, Prasar Bharati, which is the largest in the world. Mr. Sircar Jawhar will visit Ljubljana, Bled, Koper and Maribor to deliver a series of lectures at Slovene universities and museums and meet several representatives from the world of politics and the media.
Mr. Sircar will speak at the inauguration of ‘Sacred India’, an exhibition by the renowned Indian photographer Amit Pasricha, sent by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi, to the National Museum of Slovenia, It will be graciously inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Mitja Bervar, Chairman of the National Council of Slovenia, on 23rd February 2017 at 18:00. It will be on display in Ljubljana until 25th March 2017. The Exhibition is a celebration of the diverse culture of India, shaped by its long history, unique geography and diverse demography into its present multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, secular, democratic and socialist state which is the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism and host to all other faiths of the world. Mounting of the exhibition ‘Sacred India’ is an attempt to showcase the essential unity in the diversity of India.
He will also speak at the launch by KUD Sodobnost International at 18:30 on 24 Feb 2017 at the Prežihov Voranc Library in Ljubljana of Slovene editions of two classic works of Indian literature for children -- “Nonsense Poems” written in Bengali by Sukumar Ray, father of renowned cinema personality Satyajit Ray and a collection of Indian Fairytales-- translated respectively by Mr. Milan Decleva and Ms. Dusanka Zabukovec.
Such exchanges of visits by distinguished cultural personalities is part of the continuing Cultural Exchange Programme between our countries since the independence of Slovenia. India recently hosted eminent Slovenian author Mr. Evald Flisar. Mr. Sircar’s visit is a significant step forward in the bilateral relations between India and Slovenia, not only on the political but also on the cultural and academic level and demonstrates once again the deep understanding and strong friendship that abides between the peoples of Slovenia and India.
